Machu Picchu was home to the Inca elite and probably served as a royal residence. The city was abandoned around the time of the Spanish conquest but remains one of the most remarkable architectural achievements of Inca civilization.

By Train

The most comfortable option. Trains depart from Ollantaytambo or Poroy to Aguas Calientes, from where you take a bus to the citadel.

By Inca Trail

A 4-day hike through spectacular landscapes. Requires permission and must be booked in advance.
